The Challenge
A leading provider of AI-powered voice agents for enterprise customer service needed call scripts for its multilingual voice agent translated and fully localized into 39 target locales. The scripts covered four core customer service scenarios — account login troubleshooting, e-commerce order and tracking, device troubleshooting with empathy, and hospitality and hotel reservations — and had to read as naturally as a native speaker would speak them, not as translated text. Surface-level translation was not sufficient: this was a content localization challenge at every level, requiring adaptation of personal names, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, dates and time formats, currency conventions, regional brand references, and idiomatic expressions.
Specifically, the program had to:
- Translate and localize a voice audition script (396 words per locale) into 39 locales from US English source, covering the four customer service scenario categories.
- Translate and localize a full virtual customer service assistant script (5,636 words) into Catalan Spanish, covering the same scenario categories as well as additional material including device setup, home automation, networking, and extemporaneous conversation prompts.
- Adapt all locale-specific elements throughout both scripts: proper names, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, dates, times, time zones, units of measurement, currency formats, regional brand names, and idiomatic expressions — ensuring each version felt native to its target market.
- Deliver each locale as a standalone Word document, with all locale-specific adaptations applied throughout.
- Apply a two-stage quality review covering linguistic accuracy and PM-level sign-off before delivery — across all 39 locales within a three-week window.
The Solution
LXT assigned bilingual contributors with translation and localization experience in comparable technical content to each locale, and ran a two-stage review process to ensure quality without automated tooling.
Bilingual Contributors with Localization Expertise
Each locale was assigned a contributor who was a bilingual speaker of both the source (en-US) and target locale and had prior experience with documents of similar technical and conversational content. The contributor profile requirement was not just translation competence but localization judgment: the ability to recognize when a brand name, address format, idiomatic phrase, or register choice needed to be adapted rather than translated literally. Seventy-eight contributors covered the full scope of the translation and localization services program across 39 locales.
Full Content Localization Across All Locale-Sensitive Elements
The localization brief required adaptation at every level of locale sensitivity. Personal names and gendered address forms were replaced with culturally appropriate equivalents. Phone numbers, email addresses, and physical addresses were replaced with locally plausible examples. Dates, times, and time zones followed the conventions of the target region. Currency formats were localized in style while preserving original values. Regional brand references were replaced with relevant counterparts for each market, while internationally recognized global brands were retained. Idiomatic expressions were rendered in forms natural to native speakers of the target locale — not translated literally.
Two-Stage Quality Review
LXT structured the review process around two human checkpoints: a linguistic review pass by a qualified reviewer, followed by a PM-level final check before delivery. Each locale was delivered as a standalone Word document. This approach kept quality consistent across all 39 locales, with reviewer expertise and PM oversight applied to catch errors, inconsistencies, and localization gaps before handover.
